A prism is a wedge-shaped
transparent body, which causes angular separation of incident light by
color. Prisms function as mirrors, thereby reversing the image.
Metal
prisms are used in many different types of surveys. They find more
application in optical surveys to study refraction phenomenon of light.
They are also useful for measuring distances.
Features of Metal Prism
- These are mostly coated with some metal like copper with
stainless steel threads.
- It is encased in an all-metal holder and target.
- A brass tension lock prevents the prism and target from
descending.
- These are available in various shades of color.
- it is provided with nickel plated brass bayonet adapter.
- The prism is generally made of water proof material.
Utility
It provide high
visibility and is very helpful for survey
purposes.
Application
Prisms are used in various surveys. Some of their common application
area are:
- Optical Surveys
- Geological Surveys
- Hydrology
- Geochemistry
- Environmental Engineering
