The
triaxial cell is very
useful for testing soil specimen of dia 38 mm x 76 mm. This can also be
used for rock testing purposes. The equipment consists of the following
:
- Perspex chambers with anvil and loading plunger for 38 mm dia
specimens.
- Pair of plain discs made of Perspex for 38mm dia specimens.
- Pair of porous stone 38mm dia x 6mm thick.
- Split sand former for 38mm dia specimen.
- Sheath stretcher for 38mm dia specimen.
- One dozen rubber sheaths for 38mm dia samples.
- For synthetic rubber 'O' rings for 38mm dia specimen.
- One plastic drainage tube.
Features of Triaxial Cell
The important features associated with triaxial cells are :
- The cell can be opened easily.
- It is leak proof upto 10 kg/sq cm of fluid pressure.
- An oil plug is provided for introducing a thin layer of oil over
water. This plug can be also used as an air vent.
- The cell is pivoted with four sleeve packed valves at the base.
- The loading plunger of the triaxial cell has a dial gauge rest.
Application
There are various fields where triaxial cell can be used. Some of the
areas where it finds application are :
- Agriculture
- Geophysical/Seismology
- Pavement Material Testing
- Construction
- Rock Testing
- Irrigation
